Dear Parents/Guardians

The first term of 2015 has come to an end and we would like to report on the following:

PROGRESS REPORTS

We urge you to study your child(ren)'s progress reports carefully.  Take note of each teacher's marks as well as comments. This will enable you to have a good overall picture of your child's progress.  All our grades are now following the new CAPS curriculum and as parents you need to familiarise yourself with the pass requirements for each grade.  Bear in mind that the marks your child achieved in each subject / learning area, are based on a small portion of this year's work.  This means that if they performed well, they should persist in their work to maintain this standard.  If there is a problem, it must be addressed as soon as possible.  A parent teacher meeting is scheduled for 20 April 2015 when, by appointment, you can discuss your child's progress with teachers.  Please ensure that you have the concerned teacher’s name when you make an appointment.

SPORT REPORT

We can look back on a very busy term regarding sports at Franschhoek High School.  We started with our colour athletics event, after which some athletes participated in other meetings.  The Five Schools Athletics took place on 4 February at Tulbagh.  The Fransie athletes' behaviour and appearance made us proud and a great number of our students performed very well.  We are also very proud of our U/19 boys’ relay team that came first!

The U/12 cricket team once again participated in the GDGC-T20 cricket tournament.  The team played five matches and thus gained a lot of good game experience.  Their coach, Mr Loubser, is very proud of the way in which they competed at the tournament and their good sportsmanship.

The U/8 and U/9 mini cricket teams also performed well this term.  They participated in a tournament at Bridge House.  Each team played three games and did very well!  The U/9 cricket team also played against Simond Private School and won the match.

On the tennis court our primary school players were also very active and progressed well! However, we are disappointed that we only have a few high school students who are playing tennis now.  We hope to see many more players on the tennis court in the fourth quarter because we want to continue to participate in the tennis league.

We have already started with rugby and netball, as we had our annual sports day against Hex Valley on 25 March 2015.  All our rugby and netball teams competed and did extremely well.  We look forward to an exciting season on the field and netball courts during the second quarter!

Thanks to everyone who faithfully practiced and especially to each coach:  Thank you very much!

FUNDRAISING

During the first quarter we had major fundraising campaigns.

We kicked off 2015 with new ideas to generate funds for our school.  Four classes have already had their class sales of delicacies and each raised more than R1 000,00.  We look forward to all the delicacies that will be sold by the different classes next quarter.

The "Colour Run" was held on 6 March.  The children were looking forward to this new opportunity to “colour” the teachers.  After the students walked a route marked out for them, they came together in their class groups on the field, and there the fun started!  Powder paint was thrown at the teachers and they went home covered in a variety of colours.  The total of

R66 400.00 was raised with this effort.  Again, thank you for everyone's contribution.

The debutante project will start next term and will extend until October.  We will hold an informational session on 21 April in which all interested students and their parents will be informed of the rules and regulations regarding the project.  We appreciate the parents who have indicated their interest to participate.

CLOTHING BANK

The clothing bank will be open on 13 April 2015 from 12:30 to 13:30 as usual on Mondays.

STAFF

Mrs Williams, Miss Steynberg and Mr Carstens finished third in the game meat department at Franschhoek's annual potjiekos competition and showed what hidden talents our teachers have.  Congratulations to Mrs Steenkamp with the acquisition of her Honours Degree in Afrikaans and Dutch at Stellenbosch University.

Mr Cilliers has not been available at school for the past three weeks due to illness and is recovering at home after surgery.  We wish him a speedy and complete recovery and hope that he will join us again soon.  Mrs Oosthuizen has had a back operation and trust that she will feel better soon.

Finally, my heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed positively to our school during the term.  May you all have a well-deserved holiday.

Kind regards

Geagte Ouers/Voogde

As daar egter probleme is, moet dit so gou as moontlik aangespreek word. U maak afsprake by die sekretaresse.

Mnr.

Mag almal ‘n welverdiende vakansie geniet.

Vriendelike groete
